Are you a Do’er?

AWR Sherry HessLast October I attended a 3-day conference called the Business of Software (BoS) in Boston. AWR’s CEO Dane Collins had attended it for the past two years as my own travel schedule conflicted. But, by year three, I had long beforehand secured the dates. This conference is about how to run a software business and is largely targeted at entrepreneurs, but I did meet some other folks from Nokia and big Fortune 100 firms there too.

The concept that resonated with me and the group assembled is that collectively we were a bunch of “Do’ers.” You know, the people who get an idea and run with it. Typically, we call Do’ers entrepreneurs because they get an idea to start a company and run with it, but you can be a do’er in any facet of work and life.

And in general, AWR customers, in my mind, are a collection of Do’ers. They realize the advantage of cutting design times in half and the opportunity it presents to do something of additional value with the time gained. And who can argue against gaining back additional quality time in some facet of your own life (personal or professional)?

So here's my battle cry to all you Do'ers out there... Give AWR a try. Take it for a test drive to see what it can do for you.

MILMEGA Utilizes AWR Software and Cree Non-linear Models to Design Compact, High-Power, Decade-Spanning Gallium Nitride Amplifier

Milmega Success StoryMILMEGA is a leading specialist in the design and manufacture of solid-state, high-power microwave and RF amplifiers. MILMEGA relies on AWR software for their high-power amplifier designs.

"The tight integration and accuracy of the Cree-supplied non-linear models within the AWR software environment (Microwave Office) was the first critical element to the project's success. Additionally, being able to create custom scripts in AWR for optimization routines that accurately explored the capabilities of the device was another key element for success."

Microwave Office - Thermal Simulation with SYMMICBenefits of Co-Simulation Between High-Frequency and Thermal Analysis Tools in MMIC Design

Our latest white paper entitled "An Electrical-Thermal MMIC Design Flow" demonstrates the effectiveness of co-simulation between AWR's Microwave Office™ high-frequency design software and CapeSym's SYMMIC™ thermal analysis tool. An X-band RF power amplifier/low-noise amplifier MMIC for a transceiver application was the featured design that showcased how Microwave Office software and SYMMIC co-simulated to address the thermal coupling between the two circuits on the single die in order to achieve optimum results.

Visual System Simulator Optimizes Software Defined Radio (SDR) Performance

The concept of SDR is not new. VSS SDR Application NoteThe ability to implement in software numerous waveforms and receiver functions is appealing from the perspective of cost, complexity and programmability. A goal of SDR is to produce an entire radio in software, downconverting the received analog signal to baseband at the antenna port and eliminating much of the hardware in between.

Today, SDR is increasingly implemented in both military and commercial networks in more modest ways. The challenge with any SDR design is that it is a complex system that requires analysis from the component through system levels in order to achieve the desired performance.

AWR's Visual System Simulator™ application note explains the attributes of SDR, the design challenges, and includes examples as to how VSS software can be used for SDR.
