new function generator - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

I just got my new function generator and Oscilliscope from Rigol North America. I got both for under $1000 each. These additions give me generation and measurment capability to 100MHz. I got the DG4102 100Mhz Function Generator http://www.rigolna.com/products/wavefor ... rs/dg4102/
and their 100MHz Oscilloscope DS1102CA http://www.rigolna.com/products/digital ... /ds1102ca/. Both have remote program capability and were easy to setup and start using.

I found several features on the Function Generator that I really liked. They had full sweep Linear and Log, full ARB waveform capability and white noise output in addition to several standard outputs like sine, square etc. It has 130 predefined waveforms. So it has some decent capability.

I ran both Function generator and Oscope thru their paces and they performed well. The Function Generator did 100Mhz at several volts Peak to peak as well as down to 1microHz. Amazing capability for a box under $1K each. The Oscope was easy and quick to setup and view the output. I also have FFT spectral capability on the Oscope so I could see the harmonic levels as well as the fundamental. These 2 instruments put me well on the way to a full home test lab.
