ESD Testing - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hello:

Does anyone know what the most common testing standard for ESD is? There are references to IEC, Mil-STD, JEDEC, etc., but I need to know in a nutshell what they are wand when they apply. Has anyone here had experience with ESD testing?

:-D

Hello Ed,

There are many standards for ESD testing. I work in the military sector and use MIL-STD-461. At the microchip level MIL-STD-883 defines a human body test for ESD to the chips. There are different specs and models for the European market as well. First you should look at your performance specification and statement of work for your customer's requirement. There should be a Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) for ESD testing requirements. You should also check with your Quality department to see what method and spes they follow.

Good Luck,

RFTEJerry
