history of VHF BandIII - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi.

I have very basic and simple question.


I:ve frequently seen the description "VHF band III".

But I don't know of the origin of the description Why "III"? For what VHF band is classified to "III"...

If there is someone who know of this, please let me know.

As far as I recall, some time in the 1960s some dudes, probably at ITU-R divided the VHF and UHF TV Bands into sections, I thru V

Band I was 30 thru 87 MHz
Band II was 88 thru 108 MHz
Band III was 190 ish thru 230 or thereabouts
Band IV was 490 thru something
Band V was all the rest up to 800 MHz or so.

I would like to be more precise but as I was apprenticed to Michael Faraday, my memory is failing.
