Questions about CDMA modem for use in Venezuela - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hello, We have a customer in Venezuela requesting that out system be supplied with a CDMA modem instead of our standard land line modem. I have seen a few devices online that look like they may be what we need.

A few examples:
http://www.arcelect.com/StarPoint_Digital_CDMA-1xRTT_Cellular_Modem.htm
http://www.comzone.co.nz/MM5100.aspx

I have been researching a bit about CDMA and it appears to me that there are at least 3 different CDMA modulation standards CDMA1, CDMA2000 and WCDMA? How can I find out which is used in Venezuela? If I buy a CDMA modem how can I be sure that the customer will be able to activate that device that may be supplied from a different country? Should the modem be purchased in Venezuela to ensure compatibility and provider support?

Sorry for lack my lack of knowledge on this topic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you called the vendors you list and ask them what they know about it?

Better yet.... Much Better yet... Ask the person that is making the request "What Service Provider (Telefonica, Uni, Vodafone etc.) will you be using this CDMA modem with?" Then call that service provider and them what kind of data services they offer and whose air cards they use.

And.... You missed a standard, which will more than likely be what your customer is looking for CDMA 1xRTT...
