Tue Apr 26, 2005 9:24 am Hi All, can anybody give an idea about
hourly rate for the position of "Handset Field Test engineer" and also
what might be "per Diem" in the USA. Another thing, is there any
relation between Field Testing and RF engineering (i mean if at later
stage i want to go into RF Design, this experience will be valuable
or not),
Any suggestions and comments will be appreciated.
Regards
Tony

subject: RF contract ratesPosted: Wed May 11, 2005 7:11 am For per
diem rates look at www.gsa.gov/perdiem You will find all the rates
there.
As for the hourly rate I am not sure about Field testing.
If you know how much you would make as an permanent employee with benefits
multiplying your pay-rate by 2 and adding 10% is the usual rule of thumb
for contracting.
Be carefull with companies or agencies trying
to pay you at same hourly rate as a permanent employee but with none
of the benefits factored in ( time-off, insurance...). Some of them
do that if they think they can get away with it.
The consultant
rate for RF-EE in the US in between $100 and $125 per hour according
to IEEE survey last year. but you should do you own computation based
on all your cost.
Those questions are always asked. we may need
a special forum for consultants/contractors.

18, 2005 9:48 am RF engineering is a broad trade area including
semiconductor work, board level work, system work, cell-planning work...
Field testing might be a subset of RF engineering but that won't allow
you all kind of work which requires training of some sort. IMHO it
could be a foot in the door for cell-planning then system work.
