replacing a photo sensor with RF - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

What is required to replace a small board mounted photo sensor with an RF trigger? I'm just having fun with a little project and would like to use something cheap and near at hand like a baby monitor or walkie-talkie to activate a board that is presently activated by a board mounted two pin photo sensor.

If I understand you correctly, you will basically need a transmitter and receiver. There are IC's of this kind operating in the ISM freuqncy bands for example 434MHz, 868MHz, 915MHz etc. The receiver will detect the transmitted signal and generate a trigger that will operate/enable your circuit.

Hope this helps.
