can the unbalanced Pi attenuator take the place of isolator - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

While a 30 dB pad would give 30 dB of isolation, I'm hard-pressed to come up with a situation where that would make sense.

In a receiver, that would give a 30 dB noise figure: terrible!
In a transmitter, that would reduce the power output 30 dB: what a waste!

What is the context for this question?

Good Luck!
