ansoft designer simulation help - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi,

I was trying to simulate a down converter using ansoft designer. apparently there is no mixer block in designer. can someone pl guide me on how to create the netlist for the mixer or, is there a mixer library that i can use?

did u try including all the libs. if not in the tools menu configure libs .. add all the libraries. are you using the complete version or the student version?

I am assuming you are looking at the student version. If that is the case, note from the readme file:

o Only linear circuit simulation is supported in Ansoft Designer SV.
You cannot simulate non-linear devices. You can, however, insert
non-linear devices into your circuits and transfer these circuits
to the professional version of Ansoft Designer.

If you can locate an older student version of Ansoft Serenade v8.5, you can simulate non-linear effects with some limitations. I still use Serenade v8.5 as I don't like Designer much and the limitations are more severe.

Hi,

1. i was trying to use the circuit simulation package in ansoft designer. now i am using the system simulation part and i was able to locate the mixer. i am now trying to run temperature sweeps on my circuit. when i use the inbuilt temp sweep in ansoft, nothing seems to happen to the S parameters. I plugged in a couple of manufacturer datasets for different temperatures and got totally different results, compared to the temp sweep in ansoft. does anyone have an explanation??

2. I was wondering about how to determine the S-parameters of the mixer. I wanted to use custom defined S parameters for the mixer in my simulation. How do i determine S12, S21, S31, S32 & S23/32??

3. In Ansoft Designer, how do I import a touchstone file for a bandpass filter? I was able to import the s2p file for the amplifier, but the BPF properties dialog doesnt seem to have an option to import an s2p file..
