T1 Theory - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

I am writing a paper for my class on T1's for wireless. Can any one explain to me the theoroy behind it. I understand why T1's are in place. I dont understand there essential function. I know they operate @ 1.54 Mbit/s and they have 24 channels, but what do those channels exactly carry? How would it tie in to the MSC and BTS using it for GSM,UMTS or TDMA? How many calls can 1 T1 essentially carry? How much data before its overloaded? Maybe a good analogy would help explain it as well?
