SMA-connector at the solderside - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi all,

has anyone experience with sma-connectors mounted on the solderside of an rf-circuit. By doing this I can place the connectors at the optimal places on the board. But I don't know how to simulate the sma-to-microstrip transitions with sonnet.

Unfortunately you need a 3-D simulator. But the lumped element euivilent circuit is a inductor with a capacitor to ground. Inductor for the connector. The shunt capacitor models the coupling capacitanec to ground.

I don't have a 3D-Simulator. And the time to get familiar with such a tool may not be short. Or is there any 3D-simulator for free?
