Matching for PAs - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Can someone tell me the best online tutorial for impedance matching of PAs. If you find there is someother means to get educated about matching and stability analysis of PAs, that would be great.

Hi :

You could check Agilent technical /application notes.
And may I suggest that you find RF textbooks. Most of RF textbooks should be able to help you...

Here are some recommendations :

1. Microwave Transistor Amplifiers, by Guillermo Gonzales
2. RF Circuit Fundamentals I and II: also by Les Besser.

If you have any PA matching and stability issues to clarify/discuss, I may be able to help.

hi jean...what do u think abt 'Microwave and RF Power Amplifier Design' book? have u ever used it or do u know if it's a good one to have or nothing beats Microwave Transistor Amplifiers?? Thanks

Hi there..

In my opinion, it depends on what issues do you need to emphasize more.
If for general knowledge on stability and matching networks, I believe most of RF textbooks will provide good information on this issue.

I think, this RF Cafe provides good information on this issue as well.

And I found lectures of 'RF and Microwave Power Amplifier Design' By Andrei Grebennikov, M/A-COM Eurotec.

which I believe gives you some information on your interest issues, as it covers stability, gain (Lecture 3) and impedance matching (Lecture 2), that are important issues on PA Design fundamentals.

I'm not sure whether you are looking for general knowledge or something more advanced?

jean...the book i mentioned is by Andrei Grebennikov of M/A-COM, Ireland. the thing is that i'm starting research in PA IC design and although i've lots of academic background in analog/RF design and RFIC design i particularly don't have much knowledge of hardcore PA design. Stability, gain, matching network....i've very sound foundation there but more important issue relating to PA design, especially IC design is what i'm really looking for and i though 'RF and Microwave PA design' might be a good book to use as a guide and reference. thanks
