Harmonic Balance simulation - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi,
I need to sumulate a mixer (Gilbert cell).
When I run Harmonic Balance simulation everything is ok
if I put different LO and RF frequencies.
In my design I use LO=RF and I am interested in the DC
component / performance of the mixer.
The problem is that when LO=RF the simulator returns some rubbish
results or nothing at all. I tried that on Agilent ADS and Microwave Office.
Any idea what I am doing wrong? Is it some kind of limitation of the Harmonic Balance Simulation?
How to overcome this problem?

Thanks,
Przemek

Assuming that tthe model you are using is OK ( non linear model), then you can try and increase the number of harmonics of the simulator, although this may not help since the expected output should be a DC signal with perhaps leakage tones from the RF and LO ports. Is the simulator giving you a convergence error?
