Definition of Injection Locking - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a complete definition for what injection locking is?

I have seen this term used for oscillators and power amplifiers mostly, but I am not 100% sure what it is.

I have a feeling that it is a description of applying a signal to a circuit (mainly an oscillator) to force it to oscillate at the applied frequency rather than the 'free-running' frequency.

Thanks.
