WCMDA - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi all, first post here.

I know what forums are like so I'll ask firstly for any good links to tutorials for WCDMA if anyone knows. I've tried Google and am getting a bit lost with some jargon I'm not familiar to.

I have an electronics degree but am starting a job soon with mobile phones and need to brush up on new technologies...particularly WCDMA.

The whole concept of several devices being able to communicate at the same time has me baffled, not so much the theory but the physical problems. So if anyone could give a quick guide that'd be even more appreciated. Failing that, the most specific question I'd like answered is:

I found a good anology for WCDMA that is, if 20 people in a room are speaking a different language, you dont hear the background noise, only the person you're talking to...but electronic devices are not so selective with their hearing! How on earth does a base station receive my call, at the same time and on the same frequency as someone elses?

I need to get my head around this before going into too much other stuff first so help appreciated!

Oh PS, I'm very happy with GSM and how TDMA works, thats easy to understand! :wink:
