UHF Antenna Shielding - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi
Im currently developing a system that will use two horizontally polarized recieving antennas roof mounted on a car. What i want to do is have one antenna recieving from the front and the other receiving from the rear on the car. So i intend to apply shielding to the rear sections of each antenna to isolate the reception to front and rear. I am recieving at UHF 868 mHz, does anyone have any recommendations as to what shileding materials to use?
Many Thanks
Matthew Webster

Hey dude,

I assume from the post you made a little later, that you don't want your car to look like it has a billboard on the roof! what I would suggest (please note I am a bit new to the RF game and more than a little daft) is to use a mesh type screen between the two antennas, which you should be able to get from your local hardware store. however what may work better is a type of repeater setup, where instead of using one antenna for transmit and recieve, use two, but switch between the two of them.

Hope that helps!
