Average Power from FM radio transmitters - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Dear All,
I was wondering how, in general terms, one might calculate the average power radiated from an FM radio broadcast transmitter. Now, most transmitters list their ERP (which is the peak power times the antenna gain), but I need to know what the average transmitted power is?

Bearing in mind that the FM radio band (88-108 MHz) contain many different broadcast channels within its 20 MHz bandwidth. So, the energy is probably not distributed eavenly across the band. How will this affect the average power calculation?

Suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.
Happy New Year to any of our Chinese colleagues who might be reading this.

Best Wishes
RF Burns
