AM Anetnna Amplifier - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi folks,

Does anyone know of a good AM antenna amplifier? I listen to a lot of AM radio and the reception where I live is very bad. It is not due to noise in the channel, it's just a weak signal. I don't really want to mount a big outdoor antenna. Something local inside would be great.

Thanks guys.

Hey Cube
You've cloned yourself. How do you do that?
Kool threads though. And those hats are to die for.

Fear not - Webmaster Man to the rescue

To answer Cube Slave's question about the Wright Borthers, I kind of randomly assigned some the newly posted avatars to users. You can change it by clicking on the Profile button at the top, once you have logged in. Mr. Nubbage got a cool one for all his hard work... not that you are not cool, too. Hmmm. might have stepped in it here.

And, for the original question, I have an answer. My own home is located a fair distance from the AM radion station that I listen to, so I did some research into signal strengthening products that really work. The one I found, and now use, is a passive, tunable loop that sits near the AM radio. You fiddle with the tuning dial and the location/angle of the loop until you achieve the best signal. There are no batteries, power supplies, or wires to connect.

Mine was bought through Amazon. Here is the page (click on text):
