Greetings:
Here's a gripe I have about a lot of component vendor websites, one
which you probably share: How many times have you read a new product announcement either
online or in a trade magazine and then gone to the company's website only to not be
able to get any information on the part? You do a search on the website for the part,
or look through their list of components, peruse the online catalog, and there is nothing
to be found. The same thing often happens when you find a part inside a device (phone,
radio, etc.) and then find no mention of it anywhere on the site.
I must admit
that even the company I work for is guilty of the same thing. Last week I participated
in a group that was reviewing a new version of our website that will be going live soon,
and I was sure to point that out as a major annoyance that should be taken care of.
Sure enough, I went to our homepage and found a reference to a newly released part,
then could not find any information on it other than a copy of the official news release.
I was told the problem is usually a matter of coordinating the website database content
with new releases, but there have been plenty of times (both on our site and many others),
where even months after the new product has been released, you cannot find it.
Sometimes the reason you cannot locate additional information about a part is because
it is proprietary to a specific customer, but for crying out loud, at least put up a
notice of some sort so that you do not waste time hunting around for information that
will never be found!
